Laminated glass :     Dupliver®

laminated glass Laminated glass is often used for added protection in windows, balconies or sloping glass roofs.
Certain types are also an excellent protection against hammer- or blow-torch-wielding burglars. This is due to the fact that the various layers of glass are separated by one or several elastic films made of a synthetic material called polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Pressure and temperature during manufacturing are such that PVB layers become almost permanently bonded to the glass.

Laminated glass is more easily cracked than tempered glass, but much harder to pierce thanks to the PVB film. When it breaks, it cracks in a star pattern, whereas tempered glass shatters. Another difference is that, contrary to tempered glass, laminated glass can still be sawn, cut or pierced after the manufacturing process has been completed.

The PVB film also has ultraviolet-screening properties, significantly reducing discolouration of products placed behind the glass. Moreover, laminated glass offers good soundproofing and may be used in double glazing so as to maximize thermal insulation. PVB film between the glass panes of laminated glass

Laminated glass is available in many thicknesses with varying numbers of PVB layers. It has three different types of applications:
  • General-use products such as railings, some types of double glazing and roofs of conservatories. The most common types are 33.1, 33.2, 44.1, 44.2, 55.1, 55.2, 66.1 and 66.2
  • Burglary proof products.
The whole range of burglar proof glazing meets the CTK 4 standard of the Union professionelle des entreprises d’assurance (UPEA or BVVO) and to the new European standard PR EN 356. These products are divided into three classes, from basic to maximum security break-in protection. Each product is tested at Charleroi’s Institut national du verre (INV), and a test report showing the glass’ main properties is always available.

  • Bullet proof products.
Soliver offers a full range of firearm-resistant glazing that can be used in banks or post-offices. The product varies according to the type of weapon against which protection is sought. For each individual product a test report has been made by the INV. Such reports are based on the technical data obtained through firing tests carried out by the Weaponry and Ballistics Department of the Royal Military Academy in Brussels.
